The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
