A National Palette and Historic Symbol

The new design showcases a patriotic palette to reflect the national flag and will be rolled out on locomotives, at stations, and across its online presence.

Notably, the logo is the well-known double-arrow design currently used by National Rail and originally designed in the 1960s for the former state operator.

A Rollout Plan

The phased introduction of the branding, which was created internally, is set to take place gradually.

Commuters are expected to begin noticing the newly-branded services on the national network from next spring.

During the month of December, the design will be showcased at major railway stations, like Birmingham New Street.

The Path to Nationalisation

The proposed law, which will enable the creation of Great British Railways, is presently moving through the House of Commons.

The government has argued it is taking control of the railways so the service is "owned by the passengers, working for the people, not for profit."

The new body will unify the operation of passenger trains and infrastructure under a unified structure.

The department has stated it will merge seventeen various entities and "cut through the frustrating bureaucracy and accountability gap that continues to plague the railways."

Digital Services and Existing Ownership

The introduction of Great British Railways will also include a dedicated app, which will let users to view timetables and reserve journeys without additional fees.

Passengers with disabilities travellers will also be have the option to use the app to book help.

A number of operators had already been taken into public control under the outgoing government, such as Southeastern.

There are currently 7 operating companies already in public hands, accounting for about a one-third of passenger trips.

In the past year, Greater Anglia have been brought into public ownership, with further franchises likely to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Industry Comments

"The new design is not simply a paint job," commented the relevant minister. It signifies "a fresh start, shedding the problems of the previous system and focused solely on delivering a proper passenger-focused service."

Rail figures have welcomed the government's commitment to improving the passenger experience.

"We will continue to cooperate with industry partners to facilitate a seamless changeover to Great British Railways," a senior figure said.
