This historic hillside village, a ancient hillside village in southern Spain, approximately a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking backdrop for this art retreat. Artists of all abilities – including novices – will be taught how to plan and create non-representational pieces. A portion of the time will be spent outdoors, working on guided exercises en plein air. These initial charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be expanded upon in the studio, with participants completing several abstract landscapes in acrylics to be displayed in the local community. Participants has sole use of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. The price covers five days of art instruction; full board; and an outing to the nearby fortress and additional local sights.

Plant-Based Culinary in Portugal

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, set on a riverside villa in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Guests will learn to produce meze spreads, take part in a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a local vineyard to taste Portuguese wines, plus free time for walks by the Funcho River, to relax on the terrace or take a dip in the pool. The farmhouse, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, plus safari tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in High Wycombe

This energetic camp is an energizing, welcoming three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a high-energy group warmup, then several hour-and-a-half classes teaching various urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Dancers are split into levels based on skill level, so it is perfect for those who are completely new to street dance, right up to experienced performers or teachers. The camp doesn’t include accommodation but there are a number of places to stay within walking distance, and it is under an hour by train into London.

Sea Shanty Weekend in St Ives

This coastal town is the ideal spot for a maritime music retreat. Guests will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at composing original ones. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is held in a country house with views of the bay. All meals are provided, including a traditional tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Grog, alas, is not provided. Writing in Greece

Writer and tutor an experienced instructor leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including story structure, characters, locations and suspense, to submitting work to publishers. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in special sessions at the start and finish of the retreat. The holiday is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – 10 private accommodations surround a garden and pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to share). On the final evening, budding authors celebrate with a musical performance in the courtyard and a final meal.

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a host of courses covering sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a opportunity to relax in the organization's sustainably managed forests, which are home to polecats, otters, dormice, bats and rare birds. These new summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and Dufours on the Blackwater estuary.
