Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
